Microsoft has confirmed 13 original Xbox games will be playable on Xbox One consoles starting tomorrow, Oct. 24. Along with this news, Microsoft has also revealed four Xbox 360 games that have been upgraded to play on an Xbox One X.
Xbox games will soon be playable on Xbox One, and like Xbox 360 titles, Microsoft plans to roll them out over time. This means we only know of 13 games confirmed to work when the service begins. Thankfully, there are already some classics on the list to hold you over until more games are included. Those games are as follows:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Ninja Gaiden Black
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Fuzion Frenzy
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Psychonauts
Dead to Rights
Black
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
Sid Meier’s Pirates!
Red Faction II
BloodRayne 2
The King of Fighters Neowave
According to IGN, if players have the original discs, simply put the disc into an Xbox One and you’ll be able to start playing. If you have a digital copy of any of these games, they will be waiting to download in your “My Games and Apps” section of your console.
System Link multiplayer will be enabled for these games, which supports play across all iterations of Xbox One and the original Xbox. Online multiplayer is not supported.
In other Backward Compatibility news, Microsoft will also give four Xbox 360 games an upgrade when played on an Xbox One X. Halo 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Assassin’s Creed will now include 10-bit color depth (upgraded from 8-bit), HDR lighting and up to nine times the number of pixels on screen. Not every game has the same upgrades, but they all feature the increased pixel count.
Upgraded Xbox 360 games will be available on Xbox One X when the console releases on Nov. 7. Microsoft didn’t reveal to IGN if other Xbox 360 games would receive upgrades for the new console.
So what do you think? Are you excited to see original Xbox games come back to life on your Xbox One? What games do you hope get included in the Backward Compatibility program (and why is it the original Fable)? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
