XCOM 2 on PC has been a great experience so far, and is about to get even better. Firaxis has just revealed that controller support will be added, along with an interesting new way to explore.
As noted on a blog post, XCOM 2 is now compatible with the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers. Other controllers can be used, but may require some additional adjustments to get everything working properly.
Once you have a controller hooked up, you can now do some interesting first-person exploration that was previously locked away. There’s a long way to do this, which you can read about on a second blog post, but we’ll walk you through the quick and easy way here.
To start, open up Steam and find XCOM 2 . Right click on the game, and select “Properties.” Once in this menu, go to “Set Launch Options” in the “General” tab. Type in “-allowconsole” (without the quotation marks) and hit the “Okay” button.
Now that the first step is done, follow these steps to explore your game in a different way. Keep in mind, this feature doesn’t allow you to actually play in first-person, you simply control a camera to look around a given area.
Load up a game and hit the ~ or keys to open up the developer console. Here you can enter in any of the dev commands. We’ll detail more commands later in this blog, but if you want to get right into the debug camera, just enter “toggledebugcamera”. Next just pick up your controller and get right into looking around.
Controlling the camera is simple. Use the left analog stick to move around and the right stick to look, just as you would in any first person game.
Left trigger on your controller will slow the camera movement speed down, while right trigger will speed the camera up.
Typing “togglegfxui” will turn off the HUD for more immersion. Typing the command again will turn the HUD back on.
To reset the camera, just enter “toggledebugcamera” a second time.
Firaxis recommends using this new camera control to go back into your saved replays. Once in here, you can change around the camera to capture your most epic moments from a different perspective.
So what do you think? Are you excited to get back into XCOM 2 with a controller? Will you be exploring new sights with the debug camera? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
