The final episode of Arrow Season 5 won't involve saving Star City from destruction like previous finales, but an unexpected ally will help Oliver defeat Prometheus.
“The alliances are going to be very surprising. You’re not going to believe who Oliver is working with to defeat Prometheus,” Executive Producer Wendy Mericle told Entertainment Weekly . “It’s going to be really emotional. It’s going to be all about Oliver’s family, but not the family we’re thinking of right now. It’s going to end in a giant explosion, but not where we think it’s going to end, and the emotional punch is going to be bigger than the actual physical part of the bombs going off.”
If that quote doesn’t get you excited for the final episodes of Arrow , what will? As far as this mystery ally, it’s been confirmed Katie Cassidy will return as Black Siren in the final two episodes of the season. However, since her appearance has already been announced, it’s unclear if she’s the unexpected alliance Mericle is talking about.
If not, it’s really anyone’s guess whether the alliance Mericle is referring to is with a villain or hero. If the alliance is more than one person, she could be referring to Helix, Felicity’s hacker group. Other available characters from the shows past who we haven’t seen in awhile include The Calculator, Malcolm Merlyn, Arsenal, or someone from Legends like White Canary. Since Sara was on the boat with Oliver during the premiere episode, it would bring the series full circle to also show her in the finale episode, which will wrap the flashbacks story arc.
It would also be amazing to see Arsenal and Green Arrow back together again. Roy needs to come give Dig a break from being Oliver’s father and it’d be really funny to see him interact with team Arrow 2.0.
