The man-eating collossi of Attack on Titan will finally return in spring 2017, and it’s possible the hotly anticipated second season of the immensely popular anime series could move away from the walled cities of the first season into the countryside.
Crunchyroll recently confirmed Attack on Titan’s second season will debut in early 2017, after significant delays since the debut of the series’ first season way back in 2013. This prompted speculation from a number of sources eager to predict when we’ll finally see more of Attack on Titan.
GamenGuide claims new episodes will hit Japan in March, and reports the scripts for the season are already complete. Meanwhile, Japan Today points out Japanese television shows typically premiere in April, suggesting this as the most likely timeframe for new episodes of Attack on Titan. However, neither of these reports has been confirmed by Wit Studio, the producers of the anime adaptation. In any event, there will likely be a significant wait after the Japanese release before we see English subbed and dubbed editions.
Movie Pilot has suggested Season 2 of Attack on Titan may focus on politics in Wall Rose, as well as the plot linking the government to the creation of the titans. The story will move farther from the walled cities into the countryside as the protagonists battle for survival. Other rumors have suggested the upcoming episodes could depart from the manga’s plot entirely, though this doesn’t seem to make sense, given the anime was delayed to allow the manga to develop the storyline more deeply.
Attack on Titan's storyline, which follows a trio of heroes tasked with defending humanity from skyscraper-sized monsters, has been continued in the manga, spin-off shows and even a multi-platform game set to release Aug. 30 — but fans have been waiting years for the anime’s second season.
What are you expecting in Season 2 of Attack on Titan? Would you like to see it remain faithful to the manga, or are you up for a change from the source material? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
