Call Of Duty: WWII has a Private Beta coming at the end of August, and there’s still a lot we don’t know about its features, modes and maps. That being said, a single tweet from Sledgehammer Co-Studio Head Michael Condrey has confirmed one thing: the PPSh-41 is part of the beta’s weapon roster.
The tease was dispatched Monday afternoon as Condrey reminded his 467,000 followers that there are “25 days until the Call Of Duty: WWII MP beta.” He added that “me and my PPSh-41 are coming for you.” While the playful threat doesn’t exactly amount to an Earth-shattering reveal, it at least tells us the classic firearm will be featured in the pre-release offering.
The PPSh is a Soviet SMG most known for its appearances in Call Of Duty: World At War, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 and, of course, the very first Call Of Duty game ever made. It’s a major part of any franchise title that features a Russian campaign, and it’s apparently going to be up for grabs in the beta.
What remains to be seen is what kind of tweaks Sledgehammer might bring to the gun for its WWII variant. More specifically, will the developer’s deep historical analysis of World War II weaponry ensure the PPSh-41 fires in a way that’s even more realistic to the artifact it’s based on? As long as it’s been in the series, the PPSh-41 has changed a fair amount already. In the original Call Of Duty, it was actually a half-competent mid-range gun because there were no damage drop-off features in place. If accuracy is truly the aim, we imagine the latest build will be focused purely on run-and-gun styles.
The PPSh-41 is just one of about two dozen confirmed guns revealed for Call Of Duty: WWII during its E3 multiplayer showcase. We won’t post the entire list here, but the known roster of SMGs features Britain’s M1928, the Axis MP40, the M3 Grease Gun and the British Stein. Considering there’s often a correlation between E3 demos and public betas, we can make a rough assumption that the beta’s final gun list will probably be fairly similar to the E3 one.
As far as Condrey’s concerned, he’s been intriguing his fans with Twitter teases over the past few days. Early Saturday morning, he also posted a work-in-progress version of WWII’s menu system. It features major franchise staples such as Ranked Match, and there’s also a brand new option called Daily Mode that’s never been officially described.
In addition to this cool roster of guns, the Call Of Duty: WWII Private Beta will feature each of the game’s five Divisions with unique skills and training tailored to different play styles. You can learn more about that through our full description, but available Divisions include Armored, Mountain, Expeditionary, Airborne and Infantry.
Call Of Duty: WWII releases Nov. 3 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Private Beta comes first to PS4 on Aug. 25 and will be available on PS4 and Xbox One the following weekend.
