If you’re looking for details on CD Projekt Red’s next game after the overwhelming success of Witcher 3, then you’ll want to hear what’s going on with Cyberpunk 2077. It turns out that CD Projekt Red has applied for a grant from the Polish GameINN program that “aims at increasing the competitiveness of the Polish gaming industry on a global market by 2023.”
The grant CD Projekt Red applied for is for something called “City Creation.” According to the official description (translated from Polish by GamePressure), City Creation is “a complex technology for creating a huge living city, playable in real time, which (the technology) is based on rules, AI, and automation, as well as supports innovative processes and tools for making top-notch open-world games.”
"Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before," Teixeira stated in an interview with MCV late last year. Far, far bigger. We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter." We already know that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be huge and this grant should assist CD Projekt Red with the problems of scale they may run into along the way.
On top of that, CD Projekt Red is seeking extra funds for seamless multiplayer similar to Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs 2 plans, where players may join another player’s session at any time. The grant application defines seamless multiplayer as “a complex technology for making unique multiplayer gameplay mechanics, including the ability to search out for opponents, manage game session, replicate objects, as well as support for different game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools”.
So huge, living, breathing world? Check. Seamless multiplayer? Check. What else can we expect in Cyberpunk 2077? The grant application mentions “animation excellence” (for creating more realistic animations in an open-world RPG game) and “cinematic feel,” which, well… I mean, you don’t need that explained.
There’s little additional information available about Cyberpunk 2077, so heck, I’ll take it. What else do you want to know about Cyberpunk 2077? Feel free to talk about CD Projekt Red’s next moves in our comments section below.
