The latest issue of Jump has details for the upcoming Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 that includes a bit of info about the main story and some of the characters you’ll be running into on your journey.
According to Jump -- via Siliconera -- the Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 story will take place after the Demigra incident from the previous game. In the time since, the Time Patrol has expanded their organization, which now includes the participation of Old Kai and the Supreme Kai of Time.
The protagonist of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a new member of the Time Patrol, who will face various missions in order to prevent changes in history, like the first game. However, your character can now jump back in time and “infiltrate.”

This is a feature teased during E3 2016, where some screens of your character infiltrating a Frieza spaceship were shown. Jump confirms the ability for your character to join Frieza’s Army to try to become the “Cosmic Emperor” as an example of things you can do in the upcoming game.
Jump also says that the history changes will be better and more chaotic than before. Frieza will also join with his brother, Cooler, to try and take you out.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is expected to release in 2016.
