The next addition to the Dragon Quest franchise will see some new features in terms of how characters learn skills and how save files can be transferred across platforms.
Siliconera reports Square Enix released new screenshots of Dragon Quest XI, which explain how the Skill Panel system works. In short, it is very similar to Skill Trees that you would find in other RPGs like Final Fantasy, where players will spend points after leveling up learn new abilities, increase stats and more. Each character and weapon has their own unique panels and the Skill Panel system gives players the freedom to choose enhancements based on their preference and needs in battle.
In Dragon Quest XI , players can spread across the Skill Panels so characters can learn new skills or weapons. An example given was that a character could learn whip and dagger skills. Players will be able to spread out their skill points to learn different skills or use them in one area to learn even more powerful skills sooner.
The Spell of Restoration feature, lets players enter a code at the adventure log menu to continue a game at around the same part they left off. This gives players the ability to log their protagonist’s name and story progression to continue the story on a different platform.
Dragon Quest XI is the first game that will ship as both a PS4 and Nintendo 3DS game in a special bundle. This gives players a chance to take their save file on-the-go (until the Nintendo Switch version comes out).
However, keep in mind that your level, money, and story progress won’t carry over exactly while using this feature, but it’ll give you an estimate of everything based on how far the password takes you.
Players can even input codes from the Famicom versions of Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II into Dragon Quest XI to get extra gold.
Dragon Quest XI will release for the PS4 and Nintendo 3DS in July in Japan. The release date for Nintendo Switch is still not yet known.
