The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 may feature an iris scanner, if longstanding rumors are to be believed. A new report from the Korea Herald indicates Samsung is working with the Korean camera firm company Patron to supply iris camera modules for the smartphone.
Because of this, the Galaxy Note 7 may be outfitted with two camera modules, one that serves as a standard image capturing component and another that will capture information from irises.
A recent render leak , supposedly of the Galaxy Note 7, shows a handset with extra sensors on the upper front panel of its chassis. Typically, Samsung devices have three modules or sensor on their front panels. However this render appears to have four or five.
Another recent leak claims to show evidence of iris scanner software within the settings list of a Galaxy Note 7 handset.
Iris scanners recognize about 266 traits on an iris, according to the Korea Herald, making it a more accurate and secure method of biometrics. In comparison, fingerprint scanners recognize about 40 traits. If reports are accurate, Samsung may be looking to beef up biometrics security on its devices during a time when many fingerprint scanners are proving to be quite vulnerable and some companies are looking to replace current biometrics standards with more reliable options.
Recent reports suggest the Galaxy Note 7 may launch Aug. 2 in New York City. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is rumored to feature a 5.8-inch Quad HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 chip, 6GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture.
