On Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 episode 16 (which airs at 8 p.m. EST), Jackson will confront his absentee father, while on a case away from the hospital. Jackson and April will travel to Montana to perform surgery on a sick child. However, April will find out in the middle of the trip that Jackson’s father also lives in Montana and he intends to go visit him.
Jackson has long had a caring yet tumultuous relationship with his mother, Katherine Avery, who has not always agreed with his decisions. In episode 15 the two were on opposing sides of the hospital debate on whether Dr. Richard Webber should be head of the residency program. While Jackson has always rejected his mother’s nepotism, he used position as head of the board of trustees to attempt and override the decision to bring in a new doctor to teach the residents.
Katherine notes that she wished he would have the same fervor about using his familial connections to further his career. This appears to be what has prompted him to seek out his father. From what we know of Jackson’s father, he relinquished his powerful position was a physician to become a hippie in the woods.
The impending meeting has Jackson confused and ill prepared for the surgery. April is there to be his support system, despite the fact they are no longer married and have continuously clashed amid co-parenting their daughter Harriet.
Fans are calling the episode “Japril the Sequel” as it follows Season 12 episode 11 "Unbreak My Heart," which follows Jackson and April’s love story prior to their divorce. That episode is also known as “Japril the Movie.”
Will Jackson and April get back together? We will find out during Grey's Anatomy Season 13 episode 16, "Who Is He (And What Is He To You)," which is best viewed on television or live online through ABC Live.
