Planets in Mass Effect: Andromeda, like Eos, Voeld and others, aren’t ready for humanity to settle just yet. Radiation plagues planet surfaces, even making walking around in a space suit hazardous. Thankfully, with a few side quests, things can start to clear up.
Clearing radiation on Eos is as simple as following the main and side quests on the planet. What helps the most is getting the three monoliths back online. To get a monolith back online, you must first go to the monolith, which can be found on the map. Once there, clear out any Kett or Remnant. When the area is safe, look around with your scanner to find the hidden glyphs needed, then complete the puzzle for the monolith.
If you are familiar with sudoku, the puzzles are very easy. If not, you’ll need one of each character in each row, column and square. Start with whatever group has three glyphs already, and work your way around until each puzzle is complete. Once all the monoliths are back online, you’ll have increased that planet’s viability.
The monoliths aren’t the only way to increase viability, and they don’t increase it all the way. You’ll also want to complete side quests and explore new areas to improve a planet’s surface conditions. Even getting more Forward Stations on a planet can help out, and also give you more fast travel points for easier travel.
If you happen to be out and about on a planet with radiation, don’t wander too far from your Nomad. The vehicle does a good job of shielding you from the harmful radiation and other elements while driving around, and partially restores your suit’s protection powers. For a full recharge, get back to a safe area like a Forward Station or Outpost.
