Before Splatoon 2 players partake in the game’s first official Splatfest, Nintendo has announced a Splatfest-exclusive stage to keep Inklings on their toes.
According to a tweet from Nintendo of America, this new stage called Shifty Station (Twilight Zone, in Japan) will be added to the Splatoon 2 Splatfest rotation. This stage apparently can transform between Splatfests.
Check out the tweet showing off a little of what this new stage will bring to Splatfest.
What makes this mysterious third stage important is what it means for those participating in the upcoming Splatfest. In the first Splatoon , there were three stages during each Splatfest that rotated out every two hours. These were the same three stages, so players became accustomed to how to play them.
With a third stage that was not revealed yet, players will have to learn on the fly during the Splatfest weekend. And when the weekend is over, that third stage will be switched out for another when the next Splatfest is revealed. Splatoon 2 players will not have time to learn about each stage and will have to constantly adjust their strategies.

The first Splatoon 2 Splatfest was announced last week and will pit players against one another over a weekend. From Aug. 5-7, players will compete and the cumulative win totals will be tallied.
To participate in the first Splatfest, go to the lobby of Splatoon 2 and head over to the billboard in the middle of the lobby. You’ll be asked to choose a side, a staple of Splatfests, with this Splatfest pitting fans of Mayonnaise against fans of Ketchup.
Splatoon 2 is available for Nintendo Switch now.
So what do you think of the third stage for Splatoon 2 ? Do you like the idea of a stage changing every time there’s Splatfest? Are you team Mayonnaise or team Ketchup? Sound off in the comments section below.
