It seems that the Nintendo NX rumors keep pouring in, and Let’s Play Video Games has another report that may make a lot of long-time Nintendo fans happy.
According to the latest report, it would seem the Nintendo NX will not be region locked. Two separate sources claim the current NX development kits are region-free and that those developing software for the NX have not heard anything about region locking being added.
Of course, this seems too good to be true considering Nintendo’s insistence of keeping its consoles locked to one region, so they can control when software is delivered and when certain regions can play games.
Way back in May 2015, Satoru Iwata spoke about region locks to investors, claiming that removing them will create new problems. However, he was optimistic that the NX will change that.
"However, regarding NX, given the customer feedback and proposals from the market, while nothing has been decided yet, we're currently investigating internally what problems there would be in realizing it," Iwata said. "You can think of that as the current situation. I understand your desire, so I'd like to look at it optimistically going forward."
LPVG’s sources also confirmed the dimensions of the NX controller/console. However, it should be noted that LPVG has found the source to be less reliable than first thought. Here’s their findings:
“It’s slightly thicker than the Nintendo 3DS XL when folded, so 25 mm, with a width of around 281 mm and a height of 92 mm with the controllers attached. Separated, the controllers have the same depth and height, and they both have a width of 38 mm, making the console itself have a width of 205 mm.”
LPVG has drawn a mockup of what the NX controller/console could look like given the information presented, which you can see below.
As with all reports, unless they are officially confirmed by Nintendo you should take them all with a grain of salt. Even so, the NX picture is coming into focus and we want to know your thoughts, so tell us what you want from the NX in the comments section below.
