It’s not exactly hidden, but Overwatch update 1.8, which includes a major Bastion buff and a permanent Capture the Flag mode, also includes a custom game browser that promises loads of wackiness. Check out the trailer below:
Blizzard describes the Overwatch game browser as a “playground” that “gives you the power to create your own games, change the rules, and make your creations accessible to a much wider range of players. It also gives fellow players the tools to find your games and participate.”
Players are able to adjust switches and sliders to their preference for “game modes, hero abilities, movement speed, health, damage, and much more.” Once the ruleset has been created, the game browser lets you open your creation up to anyone.
You don’t have to painstakingly toggle a billion options to create your own custom game that you can share with anyone, though. “You’re also welcome to use one of the default presets, many of which have already been featured as official Overwatch Brawls. We’re also introducing Capture the Flag maps featuring every control point on Ilios, Lijang Tower, Nepal, and Oasis, giving players nine additional maps to choose from,” Blizzard states.
If you’d rather play games than craft the ruleset for them, you can select Find Game from the Arcade menu. These games don’t require any matchmaking. All you have to do is browse or filter the list or search by keyword to find a game you like, then dive into the madness.
While the Bastion buffs and the custom game browser aren’t exactly the new hero everyone’s holding out for, they promise to shake up the Overwatch scene for good. Are we going to see a Bastion meta emerge? Is the beep boop monster going to take over some custom games too?
The Overwatch game browser is live across PC, Xbox One and PS4, but the Blizzard team promises that more is on the way. Will you be taking advantage of the Overwatch game browser? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
