PlayStation announced that State of Play is returning. Sony's live-streamed announcement video is going to be this Thursday, August 6 at 4:00 PM ET. There’s a bit of a catch though, as the focus on this episode is going to be more about third-party published games that are launching for the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation VR.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Senior Director Sid Shuman said that the upcoming episode is going to last for around 40 minutes and that they have “a great lineup in store featuring plenty of new gameplay footage and other game updates.”
Shuman reiterated that there’s going to “be no PlayStation Studios updates in Thursday’s episode” and that “[t]here won’t be any updates around hardware, business, preorders, or dates either.” The focus is going to be showcasing upcoming games launching to the wider PlayStation ecosystem, and that's it.
For sure, it’s going to be a disappointment especially to those who were expecting to hear more about the PS5. Then again, it’s better than nothing. If you’re still interested, you can watch the State of Play on the PlayStation official Twitch channel here or the official YouTube channel here.
PS Now Games Coming This Month
Three new titles are arriving to PlayStation Now this August. PS Now is a cloud gaming subscription service that lets members stream games on the PC or PS4. The service is available for $9.99 (plus tax) per month. There is also the option to subscribe for three months at $24.99 and 12 months at $59.99.
The first game arriving is Hitman 2. This one lets players travel the globe while tracking targets across exotic sandbox locations as Agent 47. Locations include dangerous rainforests all the way to sun-drenched streets. Plan and execute the perfect assassinations using stealth, sabotage, and more. This is available until February 1, 2021.
The stunning action RPG GreedFall is also arriving this month. Players get to explore a remote island full of magic, riches, lost secrets, and even fantastic creatures. Players have the complete freedom to shape their abilities, spells, and skills. Players even have the option to finish objectives either through combat, diplomacy, deception, or stealth.
Dead Cells is also coming to the service this August. The game offers an interconnected world with branching paths along with unlockable skills. Upping the ante is the fact that there are no checkpoints. This means players need to beat the final boss in one go or be forced to try again. The game is available on PS Now until February 1, 2021.
