‘Pokémon Sun And Moon’: Alola Forms May Be Linked To Past Version Exclusives

A huge new aspect of Pokémon Sun and Moon are the Alola Forms. Microclimates around the islands of the Alola Region have changed the forms of classic Pokémon.

While some are legitimately awesome (Marowak) , some are a bit odd (looking at you, Exeggutor). But no matter how you feel about the Alola Forms of Pokémon Sun and Moon , they are here to stay.

So while we wait for the next batch of information, perhaps we can figure out what other Pokémon will get an Alola Form. It may have to do with the version exclusives of Pokémon Red and Blue.

Of course, this isn’t confirmed and is only a theory, but I feel the signs are there for these three Pokémon lines to receive Alola Forms and I’m going to to lay it out for you.

The trend by which The Pokémon Company has chosen who gets an Alola Form is getting clearer with the following being true for all of the Alola Form Pokémon revealed so far.

Every Alola Form Pokémon first debuted in Red and Blue.

Each Pokémon is a two-stage evolutionary line.

None of the Alola Forms have a Mega Evolution.

It also seems that Version Exclusives from Red and Blue are a part of the new Alola Forms. The Vulpix and Sandshrew lines and Meowth were all exclusive to Blue. And then there’s the supposed leak from a Chinese source that named Arcanine as getting an Alola Form, which was a Red Version exclusive.

The same Chinese report does name other Pokémon, but with those still unconfirmed we won’t be talking about them here. So, getting back on track, there are three Pokémon lines that I feel are likely to get new Alola Forms: Primeape, Arcanine and Arbok lines.

Outside of the Chinese leak, Arcanine is a perfect candidate for an Alola Form. Besides being very popular, the Ninetales line received an Alola Form, which is its Version counterpart and The Pokémon Company does like to pair Pokémon up whenever they make big changes to them. The popular theory is Arcanine changing into a Water-Type and I can see the dog Pokémon adapting the amount of water in the region.

Arbok’s version counterpart was the Sandshrew line and Arbok can use an upgrade. Ever thought about Arbok becoming a part Dragon-Type? Its egg group matches that of other Dragons, which is odd to begin with, but if Exeggutor can become a Dragon-Type why not this snake?

Primeape is the last Alola Form I think will get a new typing. The Meowth line is Primeape’s version counterpart and I, personally, would love to see a Fighting and Rock-Type Primeape. You can explain it as the Primeape line’s adaptation to the plethora of Flying types in the region.

And if you’re wondering about the other version exclusives, they don’t meet the criteria set. Vileplume and Victreebel lines are three-stage lines along with the Magmar and Electazbuzz lines. Pinsir has a Mega Evolution and Scyther has an evolution that originates in Johto.

But, hey, I’m pretty sure no one saw Alola Marowak coming, and there can definitely be more Alola Forms outside of these three. Still, I think it’s safe to say that these Version Exclusive Pokémon are getting the Alola treatment.

We do want to hear your thoughts. Am I totally out of my mind? Or am I on to something? Who do you want to see get an Alola Form? Let us know with the typing change in the comments section below.
