It seems Marvel may have revealed a release date window for its upcoming Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 4, sooner than even Insomniac Games was expecting.
On an episode of Marvel’s webshow, Thwip! The Big Marvel Show, Ryan Penagos, the vice president and executive editor of Marvel’s Digital Media, spoke about other Marvel games coming in 2017. He specifically mentioned Spider-Man PS4.
“There’s even more on the horizon for 2017,” Penagos says. “Like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC.”
The segment was captured by a redditor, leading to speculation as to when fans should expect the new Spider-Man game.
Insomniac Games’ upcoming Spider-Man title was announced at E3 2016 (with no official game title) that would take place in its own universe with Spider-Man getting a new suit and an original story.
Insomniac offered no indication as to when the title would release when the game was first announced, and there haven’t been many updates on the Spider-Man game for PS4. But as we get closer to this year’s E3, the release date (or at least the release date window) should come into focus.
Polygon did get an update from Insomniac Games that Spider-Man PS4 still doesn’t have an “estimated timeframe for the game’s release,” despite what Marvel has said.
