Splatoon is getting another update, but it’s not just a new weapon or two but an actual new game mode that players can jump online and splat their friends.
According to the official Splatoon Tumblr page that is run by devs of Nintendo’s surprise new IP, the new game mode in Splatoon will be called Rainmaker. The new Rainmaker mode joins Splat Zone and Tower Control as the post-release game modes for Ranked Battles.
So how does Rainmaker work? Well, simply both teams compete to grab the Rainmaker and carry it to the other team’s base.
It won’t be that simple though as the Rainmaker is guarded by a shield that you’ll have to bust out first. Once that happens you can grab it and race behind enemy lines.
However, if you run out of time or get splatted, the Rainmaker will be dropped and its shield will also reactivate. The Rainmaker is heavy, so you can’t Super Jump while carrying it. Hopefully your teammates will watch your back!
The Rainmaker isn’t just an item that impedes your movements. It can actually shoot ink like an Inkzooka and you can hold the charge for an extra-powerful shot. If you retreat too far while holding the Rainmaker, it’ll explode sooner! If the battle ends without anyone carrying the Rainmaker to the goal, the team with the lowest goal distance will win.
From the sounds of the new Rainmaker Ranked Battle in Splatoon, it will be a welcome addition to the Nintendo game.
The Rainmaker Splatoon update will take effect on Friday, Aug. 14 at 10 p.m. EST.
