The Walking Dead Season 7 episode 5 finally revealed where Tara and Heath went during their two-week supply run, but left fans with an even bigger mystery: what does “PPP” mean?
At the end of the episode, Tara finds a white card with “PPP” written on the back, hidden within muddy tire tracks. Tara smiles and takes the card. It seems like she believes the note was left by Heath, but she says nothing about its meaning.
Alanna Masterson, who plays Tara on the show, was a guest on this Sunday’s Talking Dead. She was asked about the meaning of "PPP" and it turns out not even Masterson knows what the letters stand for. Masterson revealed the only person who knows is none other than showrunner Scott Gimple. More importantly, fans will see the letters “PPP” again in the show.
There’s no clear reference to “PPP” in The Walking Dead comic books. Tara isn’t a comic book character, but Heath is. If there were an obvious reference to Heath and “PPP,” we would’ve spotted it in the comics. It seems like this might be a message only Tara is meant to understand. Maybe it’s Heath’s way of saying he’ll find more supplies for Alexandria, like Tara wanted to do.
However, we doubt “PPP” is some pop culture reference. Some fans the “PPP” reference might be referring to an indie movie Masterson starred in 2011, called Peach Plum Pear . It’s highly unlikely the director would spend precious camera time on an Easter Egg not many fans would pick up on.
Still, the introduction of the Oceanside community and PPP must be important to the story. Where do you think Heath went? Do you think he’s still alive? Any thought on the meaning of the “PPP” card? Let us know in the comments below. The Walking Dead Season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
