Ubisoft is taking care of the full-rendered vagina crotch shots in Watch Dogs 2, so all you’ll have is the screenshots on Twitter for the memories of one company’s huge fuckup.
Let’s recap, shall we?
It all began with a NeoGaf thread on Watch Dogs 2 ’s launch day. One PS4 player who received his copy early woke up to an email from Sony saying he was banned from their network. Why was he banned? Well, this Watch Dogs 2 player took a screenshot of fully-rendered vagina in the game. No, it was not modded or photoshopped. You saw a dead female NPC with her legs spread, revealing a detailed image of a woman’s genitalia.
“I received my copy of Watch Dogs 2 on Saturday evening due to a mistake on Amazon Prime Now and I've been having a great time with the game so far,” user Goron2000 wrote in a NeoGaf post. “On Sunday evening I accidentally blew up a few women in a back alley with a gas pipe and then I saw *it*; someone at Ubisoft had rendered a full vagina on one (or maybe more) of the females in the game.”
The user continued, “I took a picture of this funny oversight with the ingame camera and shared it on twitter for my friends to see and I posted it in one of the Watch Dogs early release threads on here. Cut to tonight where I can't access any services while playing the game and then when I tried to sign in there was a very brief message about my account being suspended.”
Ubisoft told Kotaku they were aware and “are patching the one female NPC.” Though they didn’t mention anything about the digital penis found in the game. Yes, t here’s a naked man peeing on the streets of San Francisco with his dick out.
Someone’s getting fired. “ Watch Dogs 2 genitalia” is blowing up on Google searches. Not the kind of hype you want for a game people are already hating on. Ubisoft also released an apology to the BBC for the explicit crotch shots.
"We're aware that one of the NPC [non player character] models in Watch Dogs 2 is rendered in a way that is particularly explicit," said a spokeswoman for Ubisoft. "While Watch Dogs 2 is a mature-rated game, we apologize and will update this NPC model to make it more consistent with other NPC models in the game in a patch to be released this week.
Ubisoft added, “We also are working with our first-party partners to ensure that players can continue to play and share all content from the game within the bounds of the first parties' respective codes of conduct."
At least Ubisoft acknowledged the mistake. Too bad everything lives on the internet forever. Watch Dogs 2 is available on PS4 and Xbox One now, but PC users will have to wait until Nov. 29 to play the game.
