In World of Final Fantasy patch 1.03, players of Square-Enix’s adorable nostalgia machine will be able to download Final Fantasy XII ’s Balthier as free DLC.
Players need to install the latest patch and unlocked the ability to invoke Champions in order to receive Balthier’s Champion medal.
Sora from Kingdom Hearts is also available as free DLC. Unlike Balthier, Sora is only available for a limited time and will be removed from the PlayStation Store on Mar. 31.
Other tweaks made in patch 1.03 include the ability to save at most Gates, inputting commands more quickly, a Fast-Forward setting in the Configuration menu, a “Random” playlist for Battle Theme selections, Balthier, Sephiroth and Sora added to the battle BGM options for players who have unlocked their Champion medals and the ability to skip animations.
Anyone who remembers the arduous length of some old-school Final Fantasy summons and didn’t care to have that particular slice of nostalgia revived so faithfully will be pleased that by holding down “O,” they can skip animations now. But those World of Final Fantasy players who bothered to read the patch notes got a free guilt trip for their troubles:
“If you want, we’ve given you the power to skip Champion and Mega Mirage animations with the O button,” the patch notes read, “completely invalidating the work of dozens of artists with a single squeeze of your almighty, indifferent thumb.”
The cheerful patch notes closed with an aside about a few non-specified bugs: “And, of course, we’ve crushed some bugs. CRUSH! They’re gone! Happy imprisming!”
