WWE 2K18’s MyCAREER mode is getting a major upgrade that’s much bigger than what we’ve seen in previous games. There will be new features, like a free-roaming backstage area, side quests and a better promo system, alongside a storyline just for your created Superstar.
The storyline for MyCAREER is split into two options. Players can either be a “Company Man” or “Fan Favorite.” As a Company Man, you basically play a heel looking to help the Authority maintain power. This includes attacking other Superstars, conspiring with the GM and even going to Vince McMahon’s office to demand rematches and title opportunities.
As a Fan Favorite, your Superstar will become a People’s Champ (sorry The Rock and DDP). This means you’ll be able to interact with more WWE Legends backstage and earn powerful upgrades. If you get popular enough, you’ll even unlock a customized WWE Championship or Universal Championship belt, made just for your Superstar.
Another major addition to WWE 2K18 is the ability to walk around backstage in between matches. While backstage, your created character can interact with other Superstars, legends and even regular WWE employees like interviewers and apparel tailors.
The backstage area will also serve as an interactive menu. If you want to start a feud with someone, go find him or her and attack. If you want to have a backstage interview, go find Renee Young and talk to her. It will also be possible to start side quests while backstage, but what those quests will be like wasn’t revealed yet.
The promo system is also being overhauled, which is a very welcome addition. The promo system in WWE 2K17 was a flawed and broken mess, so anything has to be an improvement. Promos in WWE 2K18 will be more unique and custom to each Superstar, and focus more on allowing players to say what they want to, instead of trying to guess which answer is the best result.
The MyCAREER mode is also more social in WWE 2K18 with the Invasion feature set to take a more prominent role than before. Invasion allows your friend’s created Superstars to play roles in your Superstar’s story, while also letting your character live in your friend’s world as well. This feature can be turned off, but it’s pretty cool to be able to make a tag team with your friend’s character, or get into a bitter rivalry instead..
WWE 2K18 is releasing for PS4 and Xbox One on Oct. 17. A Switch version is also planned to release this fall.
