According to a tweet from Digital Foundry, the Xbox Scorpio will officially be revealed on April 6. The reveal will be exclusive to Eurogamer.
For those that don't know, the Xbox Scorpio is the long-awaited follow-up console to the Xbox One from Microsoft. Like the PS4 Pro, the Xbox Scorpio is said to simply be an increase in technical performance, not an entirely new device. All future Xbox One games will run on the Xbox Scorpio, and it has already been said that no games will be made exclusively for the Scorpio. This falls in line with the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative, where gamers can play games on any device with a single purchase.
While it may be surprising to see Microsoft have an exclusive reveal with a site like Eurogamer, instead of hosting its own reveal event or waiting for E3, it makes plenty of sense. Digital Foundry is all about technical specs and showing off how games perform. Since the big push behind the Scorpio is "this is the most powerful console ever made," Microsoft would be happy with third-party verification that the new console is as powerful as promised.
As for the claims of 6 Teraflop performance and insane RAM and all that, the facts will be coming on Thursday. Don't really believe any leaks or rumors until the reveal, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. EST.
Want to get your hands on the new console? The planned release date is set for the 2017 holiday season. With a reveal on Thursday, this gives Microsoft plenty of time to hit its target. It feels safe to say there will be a new console on store shelves by the end of the year.
