In what capacity Talia Al Ghul will appear in Arrow Season 5 episode 10 remains to be seen -- is she an enemy or friend of Oliver’s? Will we see her in flashbacks, present day, or both? We don’t have definite answers to those questions, but showrunner Wendy Mericle recently gave us a clue when she revealed Talia will play a key role in solving the Prometheus mystery.
Mericle told TV Line Prometheus “is a gift that keeps on giving for the rest of the season,” and Talia al Ghul plays a “crucial part” in unraveling the Prometheus mystery.
When Oliver said he and Prometheus must have been trained by the same woman, fans immediately speculated about Talia’s involvement. The show has been to Nanda Parbat and visited the League many times and Talia was nowhere to be seen, except in a flashback to the 1960’s where she was just a little girl.
In DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, we met a young version of Talia al Ghul at Nanda Parbat in 1960. She was training with her father during the same time Sara came back from the future. There was some foreshadowing that we’d see Talia once again, when Ra’s introduced her to Sara.
“Watch this one closely, Talia,” Ra’s says as he looks at Sara. “There’s much you can learn from her.”
Arrow Season 5 is bringing back the older version of Talia al Ghul. Lexa Doig of Continuum will play the character The CW describes as "the daughter of Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable) and the half-sister of Nyssa (Katrina Law). Worldly and cultured, Talia is an elite warrior who doesn't pick sides but rather creates her own.” Her absence from Ra’s and Nyssa’s storylines means it’s possible she moved to Russia at some point and that’s how she met Oliver, and how Oliver came to know so much about the League.
But we can’t assume just because Mericle said Talia will play a crucial role in the Prometheus mystery that she’s on Oliver’s side, even if she did train them both. After all, Ollie did kill her father and disband the League. For all we know, Talia could be working with Prometheus.
What would really shake things up is if Talia wasn’t actually the woman that trained Oliver. What if it’s a more canonical character, like Lady Shiva? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
