The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 release has already seen delays due to high demand of particular colors, such as blue and black. But now the smartphone will be delayed further, as Samsung halts shipments to address quality control issues, the manufacturer confirmed to Reuters Wednesday.
There is no word on how long the delays will last or which aspects of the Galaxy Note 7 Samsung is looking to improve. Reports have focused on several issues with the handset, including exploding batteries , constant crashing, boot looping and bricking (when the device won’t boot up at all).
The Galaxy Note 7 was announced Aug. 2 and released to several major markets, including the U.S. Aug. 19. Many markets, including China, Korea and India have local launches and alternate release dates .
Preorder and pre-release interest for the Galaxy Note 7 was high early on. Samsung was hoping to piggyback off of the commercial success of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge , which released in March. However, this quality control delay could cause interest in the Galaxy Note 7 to dwindle, especially with the iPhone 7 unveiling scheduled for a week from now.
The Galaxy Note 7 brings to market many features that have tantalized consumers, including a dual-edge display, flashy colors, water resistance, expandable storage and an iris scanner. Preliminary sales figure projections suggested the Galaxy Note 7 could sell 12 to 15 million handsets by the end of the year.
