The launch of HTC’s next high-end smartphone could include a name change, according to two well-known tech informants. Both Evan Blass, also known as @evleaks and Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as @onleaks , tweeted Friday that next device by the Taiwanese manufacturer would be called the HTC 10, dropping the “One M” moniker.
HTC has not confirmed a name change for the unreleased device; however, both Blass and Hemmerstoffer are often spot-on in their release predictions.
HTC has also been sharing teaser material, promoting the catch phrase “Power of 10,” which could be a clue to the name change.
Pundits previous considered HTC’s promotion proof that the device would be called the HTC One M10. Earlier this week, Dutch Tech Blog Tech Tastic discovered details on HTC’s official website that mentioned the HTC One M10 among other known HTC devices. Sometimes leaks give a clear picture of manufacturer’s plans, but other times they serve as decoys to hide details companies want to keep confidential.
Both @evleaks and @onleaks shared newly leaked images of the HTC 10 Friday. Hemmerstoffer shared live images of a handset he claims is the HTC 10, while Blass shared images that appear to be press renderings. Accompanying the leaked images is an updated set of specification for the HTC 10, which includes a 5.15-inch Quad HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel camera and a USB Type-C port.
Current rumors suggest the HTC 10 will be announced April 11 in London .
