The Samsung Galaxy S8 may be shaping up quickly after the permanent recall of the Galaxy Note 7. New reports from the Korea Herald indicate Samsung may work with LG to supply batteries for the coming flagship. Though no deal has been signed, Samsung is supposedly considering a range of battery suppliers, including LG, according to the publication.
Currently there is no word on whether Samsung will continue to work with Chinese battery manufacturer ATL (Amperex Technology Limited) , which provided batteries for the second wave of Galaxy Note 7 models. Though Samsung assured customers the new models would be safe, users still claimed incidents of devices smoking and exploding. Reports also indicated Samsung did not have the new Galaxy Note 7 models tested independently , as it claimed.
There are murmurs that Samsung may scrap the Galaxy Note line and rebrand its flagship phablets under a new name. However, Galaxy S8 development appears to still be on track.
Amid reports that Samsung has warned employees and suppliers about sharing information about the Galaxy S8, several details have surfaced about the upcoming smartphone. Rumors suggest the Galaxy S8 may feature a dual-lens camera as well as an iris scanner.
Details about the Galaxy S8 have come from suppliers, according to the Korea Herald . Many suppliers stand to earn a lot in the midst of Samsung’s fallout from the Galaxy Note 7, as the manufacturer is expected to continue paying for unused components for the phablet, while establishing new contacts for Galaxy S8 components. Some of Samsung’s suppliers include Kolen and Sekonix, which create iris scanners and Partron and MCNEX, which create iris scanners.
Now that the Galaxy Note 7 has been officially recalled, the device’s standout feature had little chance to be showcased on the market. Pundits expect Samsung to move the feature to the Galaxy S8 to make up for the fall of the Galaxy Note 7. However, the Galaxy S8 likely would have also included an iris scanner, had the Galaxy Note 7 been successful. The Galaxy S5 introduced a fingerprint scanner in 2014 and the feature has been seen on every subsequent Galaxy S and Galaxy Note smartphone ever since.
An official told Phone Arena that consumers should expect a major upgrade of the Galaxy S8 camera as Samsung does not use the same camera components twice. Often, components such as camera modules may be similar between Galaxy S and Galaxy Note handsets, but contain at least small tweak, such as a change in aperture or changes in internal technology. However, a dual-lens configuration is something we haven’t seen before on Samsung’s devices.
The feature could be an attempt to compete with Apple, which introduced a dual-lens camera for the iPhone 7 Plus in September. The phablet features a setup of two 12-megapixel lenses, which allow users to create different visual effects, which are harder to achieve with a single lens.
Prior rumors suggested the Galaxy S8 camera may feature a 12-megapixel and 13-megapixel lens.
