Skate 4 hasn’t been announced, teased or hinted at by EA. Something needs to change though, because fan demand seems to be through the roof.
As of right now, the second-highest post on the gaming subreddit is the picture above, with the caption “A movement I can get behind.” In the photo, we have a parody of the Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” hat, but the words have been changed to “Make EA Skate Again.”
You’d think EA might get the hint from this reddit post, but a quick glimpse of any recent picture on EA’s Instagram account will show hundreds of comments from fans asking for Skate 4. Scrolling through the photos, you’ll find comments asking for Skate 4 on photos posted hundreds of weeks ago. Is it not clear to EA yet?
Answer: No. In the interview above, EA’s Peter Moore talks to IGN about the state of Mass Effect remasters, and how they are not coming. Moore’s main argument is the studios are too busy looking forward to bother going back to an old game. “We want to focus on the future and delivering new IP and new experiences,” Moore said. “There’s a lot of people that want Skate 4, there’s a lot of people that want Fight Night to come back… there’s a lot we can do, there’s a ton we can do, but we’re really focused on the future.”
All that’s fine and good, and I understand not wanting to go back to older games to remaster them, but I don’t see EA saying they don’t want to revisit the Madden or FIFA franchise simply because they’ve already made a game in the past. Besides, Skate 4 would be a new experience, the type of thing Moore says EA should be working on!
Can you imagine what a Skate 4 would be like with today’s consoles? Aside from the obvious graphical and computational improvements, gameplay could be tied to other players much more easily. Imagine something like the Tower in Destiny, with players all hanging out together before going out to do missions, but the Tower is actually one giant level and all the players are other skaters.
Skate 4 could also be one of the most social games ever. The three previous games allowed users to edit their captured gameplay in all sorts of ways, right in the game. Allow these players to make gifs of their footage to easily share on Twitter, Facebook and reddit, and you’ll see Skate 4 posts for years to come.
While it looks like EA doesn’t have Skate 4 on its radar, keep posting comments, posting on reddit and everything else to get EA’s attention. There clearly is a market for Skate 4, and that market wants to be heard.
So what do you think? Are you one of the many who want to see a Skate 4 from EA? What other game would you like to see get made? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
